That being said, the 783 model is only being sold as an RX-870.

Im having a hard time getting the receiver to connect to my wifi. Getting a message everytime that Connection failed. Any ideas to help with using musiccast to set it up?
Your Zone 2 speakers should be connected to the SP2 outputs. Your in ceiling atmos speakers should be connected to the SP1 outputs. Keep in mind when using the 2nd zone the atmos speakers are not useable. The amp takes the amplifier assigned to that channel and uses it for zone 2.

With all due respect, you are incorrect. If you read the 'product information' page thoroughly for any of the 83 series, under 'Full 4K Ultra HD Support' you will see this disclaimer:
'*Dolby Vision and Hybrid Log-Gamma will be available via future firmware update.'
Also, Scott included the 83 series as needing a firmware update for compatibility in his overview of DV.
Unless you or someone else can confirm that your x83 is currently displaying DV, I will assume based on the Yamaha website and the support response I received that DV will be enabled in firmware around December 2017.

Newbie to AVS but long time lurker!
I recently pulled the trigger on a Yamaha RX-V383 and a pair of Micca MB42X with matching center.
Everything works wonderfully except that there is a static pop/click/snap/crackle sound when I change channels on over-the-air TV and also when I load up videos on Netflix, Amazon, and Youtube via the smart TV apps on my Samsung.
I notice on the front of the receiver that the sound occurs right when the speaker icons disappear and then reappear, indicating that it might have something to due with the audio stream going off and on again with changing channels/videos.
In troubleshooting, I've narrowed the sounddown to the L and R channels only, as the sound doesn't come out of the center. Also, I've double checked that the speaker cables are seated properly and I've used banana plugs where available.
Information online is sparse, but I've found that this might be normal behavior. Either way, I thought it would be best to confirm if possible.
I've included a video below as an example:

I see there are no replies yet, but I've continued to do research and narrowed the issue down further.
The static pop seems to happen when Bitstream and Dolby Digital are enabled on my Samsung KS8000 which is connected through HDMI ARC to the Yamaha RX-V383.
The sound happens exactly as the PCM and Dolby Digital icons flash on the receiver as well.
I found this post that describes the same thing as well on an older Yamaha receiver, but the person never got an answer:
http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=198898
I'm hoping to get some input, but this may be a characteristic of the model I have.
Thanks.
A recent RX-V383 owner with a troubling issue.
I have a detailed post here in the Audio Theory, Setup, and Chat forum but haven't had any replies for the past few days, so please check it out for more info:
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/91-aud..-channels.html
I've also recorded a video for you guys to hear the problem: https://streamable.com/uvyur
In short, I've got an issue where when changing channels on over-the-air TV, there is an audible static pop and I believe it is related to the audio stream going off and then on again.
There is a visual confirmation of this as we see the speak channel icons on the receiver disappear and reappear as they pick up the audio stream again. This also happens on the YouTube and Netflix apps.
I've also recently narrowed it down to Bitstream audio from the TV (which I want for 5.1 Dolby Digital) as the PCM setting doesn't have this static pop issue. PCM is not an option, however, as is 2 ch and greys out the Dolby Digital option on the TV.
The sounds are coming from the L and R front speakers, not the center. I'm waiting for speaker stands coming in the tomorrow to set up the rears, and currently do not yet have a subwoofer.
They are connected via banana plugs where available and I took great care in doing the wiring correctly.
Below are the components:
TV: Samsung KS8000
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V383 connected to TV via ARC
Speakers: Micca MB42X and matching center
Research on the web shows this might be normal behavior, which is concerning. A thread here shows someone had nearly the same issue but no resolution, sadly:
http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=198898
Thanks for your consideration!
I'm a HT noob replacing a long dead Bose Lifestyle 25 system and considering the following 5.1 HT setup:
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V383 for $280
Center: Pioneer SP-C22 Andrew Jones for $80
Satellites: Four Pioneer SP-BS22-LR Andrew Jones for $200
Sub: BIC America F12 12-Inch for $212
Wire: 14ga
This receiver's maximum effective output is 145 W (6 ohms, 10% THD), and I'm concerned that these Pioneers might push it too hard / toward an unacceptable THD.
My Amazon cart just passed $800, so perhaps there are better options I should be considering at/below that wife-imposed total budget?
Much thanks,
Nick
It appears that the moderators moved my original post from another thread to this one.. *crickets*.
Ken at Yamaha Customer Support replied that ' those speakers will be fine with that receiver and you should not have any issues.'
Is anyone willing to second that opinion?
Also, if there are better options I should be considering please let me know before I pull the trigger.
Nick
How To Update The Software Of A Yamaha Rx-v383 3
The AVR will be able to power most commercial speakers just fine. If you are concerned that you have a larger room than those speakers can fill, then you need to up the budget. Turning the AVR 'to 11' is no solution.

Does it have a pass thru function were I can just turn on the TV and my DirecTV box and have the audio pass to the receiver into the TV without turning on the receiver?
C, L, R, FPL, FPR, SL, SR, SW always show up on the display but never SBL/SBR only in test tone.

683 is a 7.2 ch receiver. You need a 9.2 channel.
You currently can only do 7.1 or 5.1.2, but not 7.1.2, which requires 9 channels.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Apparently some of the Denons just had their DV firmware update so I am hoping ours will be soon.

For those taking their first steps in the home-theater hobby, the new Yamaha RX-V385 entry-level AV receiver might make an excellent starting point. It includes features normally found on more expensive AVRs while keeping a tight rein on the budget.
The 5.1-channel Yamaha RX-V385 is spec’d to deliver 100 watts/channel (1 kHz, 1 channel driven, 8 ohms, 0.9% THD) or, more realistically, 70 W/ch (20-20,000 Hz, 2 channels driven, 8 ohms, 0.09% THD). The front left and right channels can drive speakers down to 2 ohms (180 W/ch in that case), but the other speakers must be 6 ohms or higher.
Expanding on last year’s RX-V383, the new model offers the ability to bi-amp the front LR speakers in a 2.1 or 3.1 setup. Also unlike its predecessor, the RX-V385 provides binding posts for all five speaker outputs instead of spring clips for the center and surround speakers.

Installing Mods in The Sims 4 The process for downloading both CC and Mods is the same, so we will cover them both at once. How to download career mods sims 4.
Perhaps the biggest news is that the RX-V385 implements HDMI 2.1 in its four inputs and one output, making it one of the first products I know of to use the latest HDMI spec. The maximum bit rate is not specified, but the AVR is said to support 4K/60p 4:4:4 video, high dynamic range (HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HLG), and BT.2020 color. So, I assume the bitrate is 18 Gbps—the same as HDMI 2.0’s top rate—which I will confirm as soon as possible. In addition, the RX-V385 will add eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) in a firmware update.
On the audio front, the Yamaha RX-V385 supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio with three Burr-Brown 384 kHz/32-bit DACs. Of course, it also decodes all the usual compressed audio formats. In addition, it can accept audio wirelessly via Bluetooth, and Yamaha’s Compressed Audio Enhancer function is now optimized for Bluetooth.
Another useful feature is YPAO (Yamaha Parametric Acoustic Optimizer). This proprietary room-correction algorithm analyzes the room’s acoustics using the included microphone and adjusts several parameters to optimize the sound for that room.
According to Robert Goedken, general manager, AV division, Yamaha Corporation of America, “The RX-V385 offers budding home theater buyers cutting-edge technology at an accessible price point. When you factor in YPAO automatic acoustic technology, 4K Ultra HD support, HDR, and Dolby Vision, this receiver gives entry-level consumers uncompromising value with everything they need to get started to enjoy a full 4K sound experience at home.”
The Yamaha RX-V385 will be available at the end of April for a list price of only $300. For more info, click here.
