You don’t even need to admit your game is laggy. Everyone’s The Sims 3 became laggy at one point or another and became virtually unplayable. Say hello to your savior, Overwatch. Overwatch has a ton of uses, but it’s mostly a way to clean up your game each night. You’d be surprised just how many sims can get stuck and make your lag insane to handle through each sim day. It’s automatic and can really relieve your game’s stress. You can turn off all televisions, turn off stereos, reset missing sims, reset everything that’s stuck, cleanse the dead (creepy), clean up inventories, and a ton more that will guarantee less lag. Thanks Overwatch, for cleaning up EA’s mess!
You’ll Never Be Able to Go Back After This Mod

Story Progression has ruined every sim player that’s installed it. No longer can anyone go back to the vanilla game after installing at least this mod. It can get annoying as constant messages pop up letting you know of the new story progressions, but you can shut them off. This takes the base game’s story progression and puts it on steroids, making the original look like poop. The sims will go on with their lives, getting married, breaking up, falling in love, changing jobs, having babies, buying houses, literally everything.
Make Your Sims Extra Beautiful with Skin Mods
Subtle differences with this mod will really up the game. They also made a mod for the sims’ eyes that change up some minor details.
If we’re talking huge changes to your sims’ skins, though, check out this mod that changes your sims from doll faced mannequins to friggin’ supermodels. Higher definition, better contouring, eyes look far more realistic, and the eyebrows are hella on fleek now. Once installed, you’ll never be able to even look at the EA designed sims graphics again.

The Woohooer mod has it all for your horny sims! You’re able to have Cyber Woohoo, order “professional services,” send a woohooey text, register as a gigolo, see a matchmaker to find lovin’, rendezvous in public, and undergo risky sex that has a percentage chance to get your sim pregnant. That last one really changes up the game and is the main reason to want to get it. It adds a huge game of chance every time you want your sims to do it. Oh, and your sims can increase their Woohoo skill and get better and better at it.
Know the Attraction System? It’s Better Now
Whereas before it seemed to be a random occurrence to have two sims find each other attractive (or it relied on your sim being in tuned with her or his skills), the Retuned Attraction mod makes it rely on moodlets when two sims meet. Traits, zodiac signs, and rewards are now also thrown into the mix, making the attractions at least a little more realistic for your sim to find their missing puzzle piece. Or just someone new to woohoo.
Get More Traits at Once!
Ever make a sim and have a crisis while trying to decide which traits to leave out and which to include? With the More Traits for All Ages mod, you’re able to increase the maximum traits allowed at each age, giving your sim some mad boosts to their personality. This allows for far more intricate sims and you won’t be able to go back to vanilla after this. Why should your sim be restricted to a couple of traits?
Like Your Game Ridiculously Hard?
For hardcore The Sims 3 players, the game can get pretty formulaic and easy. You already know how to start from the “bottom” (20,000 simoleons) and budget your way to a mansion on the beach. So why not throw your routine for a loop with this mod that raises your sim family’s bills and lower your create a sim’s starting money. Can you survive off of a starting point of zero simoleons?

Qbuilderz also discovered two techniques to really up your decorating game: geoblending and aerostacking. This allows you to stack up items and also have your stuff blend into the environment easily.

This Japanese Culture Trait mod adds exactly that, a hidden trait that can be improved upon. It gives your sims a bit of culture and ranking up the trait allows your sim to bow when introducing themselves as well as sitting down “seiza” style. It’s still being worked on, but it’s very promising and is something that should have probably already been included in The Sims 3 with World Adventures.

Step Up Your Food Game
If you’re constantly finding your sim fridge filled with leftovers, the Food and Cooking Tweaks mod will lower the amount of servings in a group meal. Additionally, it lowers the time it takes to cook food to begin with. Couple that with the More Realistic Dining mod and you can get your sim eating faster or slower. If your sim’s fridge is cheap, you might want to consider the Reheat Food in Microwave mod as that takes away the negative “tastes like fridge” moodlet.

This mod will let your sims let their anime flag fly by adding a channel for animation. All the clips shown are from Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away and Porco Rosso. Adds a new level for your sims to be able to get into anime and allow for that kind of roleplaying. Anyway, this mod makes that whole process a bit faster so that you can get your sims in that cool car in no time.
MINE!
Are your sims total hogs? Do they absolutely hate sharing? Well, then these two mods will definitely be for you. With Private Room Door (With Key), you’ll be able to buy and place a door that will disallow anyone from entering the room except for the sim holding the key that pertains to it. Keep your family’s heirlooms safe from any thieves. Also, grab this locked treasure chest that works the same way as the door to make a portable solution to your hoarding needs.
Factory Tycoon
Ever want a sweatshop? You’re sick. This mod won’t really help you with that, sicko. But it will allow you to hire a factory service worker that will make gadgets and gizmos galore for you. The gadgets that they build will depend on your family member knowing how to make it first. Then, you just pay $125 per day for them to make a ton that will end up in your sim’s inventory.
Shut Up, Ya Hippies
With University Life came the ability for your sims to protest up a storm. Anywhere. Always. Protests could form literally in the most random locations by a group of people. It could become annoying for your game if it got buggy. Or maybe you just don’t like seeing those protests from time to time. Either way, this mod is for you. It’ll halt any and all protests from happening and thus none of the bugs will occur.
Get Comfy
Isn’t it weird that your sims can come home from work and still be wearing their uniforms? Can get a bit annoying that they don’t take it off for normal wear, yet they’ll switch into it after showering when you’re close to going to work, right? Well, this mod makes it so that when your sim gets home from work, they’ll change into their everyday clothing. Like normal humans do. This is even if they’re planning on leaving right away. Oh, and it only happens when your sim arrives home while wearing work attire.
Coffee Aficionados, Rejoice
If you’re a coffee lover yourself, or your sims are, you’ll love this mod. It allows you to basically choose the coffee your sim will drink. Choose from a latte, frothiccino, chai, or cappuccino. Then, you can choose the amount of shots, the flavor twist, and kind of milk, and even if your sim wants whipped cream or sprinkles. There’s a ton of different combinations for your caffeine adoring sim to chug. Also included are moodlets that are affected depending on the ingredients chosen.
Stop Hating Me
Find it kind of annoying how sim relationships seem to deteriorate very easily? Like as if all it takes is to not talk for a bit and BOOM not best friends anymore. Well, if you don’t want to invest some points in the Long Distance Friend reward, you can always just get this mod. It’ll allow you to set the decay to happen over 168 hours (7 days), 500 hours (20 days), or 9,999,999,999 hours (416,666,666 days)
Please Let Me Stay

If your sims like spending a ton of time in other sims’ houses, this mod is for you. Your sim will no longer get that inappropriate feeling for staying over too late. This is extremely useful since sims tend to get tired of your shit really easily. Not only that, but you’ll be able to ask to stay over at any time. This is important because this mod doesn’t actually stop you from getting kicked out. You can totally still be asked to leave if you’re over for way too long without asking to stay over.
Ahhh, Home Spa
If you love sending your sims to the spa but hate making the trip, you can get this mod for a buyable mudbath and standalone sauna. Additionally, you can get yourself a massage table and get your sim nice and relaxed.
OMG. BIG CATS.
Look. I don’t need to go into why this mod is awesome. Big cats. No, not dogs made to look like cats. Not just small cats made to look like lions and tigers. No, no, no, these are big cats all standing alone as they are. And they are now yours.
Improved Writing
Have a novelist sim that takes way too long to crank out his masterpieces? This mod makes it so that the writing skill is improved. What this means is that the pages written per minute is increased, the flops probability is lowered, best-selling probabilities are raised, and a whole mess of more changes to bring balance. So while this does improve the writing skill, it doesn’t make it all that more easier to get rich from writing.
So. Many. Muffins.
The cooking skill for kids is really weird when you’re playing on a normal lifespan. This mod is super simple, it just makes it so that you can achieve the max cooking skill for your child sim before they turn into a teen. Makes it a bit more realistic of a goal in case you want a culinary prodigy.
Fix That Phone Call Bug
Into the Future is an awesome expansion, but unfortunately it also brought a lame bug with it. Rarely do you get skill-based opportunity calls anymore if you’re back in your normal time with the expansion installed. This mod fixes that.
Commander Shepard
This. Is. Awesome. If you’re a Mass Effect fan, you need this mod. The famous Normandy ship is now a building for your sims to move into. You need the Late Night expansion, heads-up, but it’s super cool. Everything has been replicated pretty well within The Sims 3.
New Recipes!
There are tons of recipe mods that you should check out to make dinner around your sim household better. For example, check out this Spring Harvest one to add four plants, four plantable ingredients, five non-plantable ingredients, and 12 recipes to the game.
Errybody in the Club
Ever notice how the clubs and bars are touted as being happenin’ spots around town, yet no one’s ever there? This mod adds way more people to the party at bars and clubs. The mod sends the sims over as soon as your sim enters the different lots. And yes, you can set the amount of sims that would be sent.

Some of the stuff in The Sims 4 is to be envied by The Sims 3. This mod brings to the third game all the fun toys that the fourth has. Including the decor that you can place around your sim kid’s bedroom.
Eye Candy
If your sim has the Eye Candy lifetime reward (introduced in World Adventures), they’ll be followed around by red sparkles. It’s a bit annoying after awhile. And by awhile, I mean five minutes. This mod just shuts that right off for you while retaining the reward.
Famous Paintings
A really cool thing that modders love to do is inject real world stuff into The Sims. There are a wide variety of real paintings that you can get to decorate your house in The Sims 3. Thank you, powerful mods, for fulfilling my dreams of a Renaissance home. Here are some great ones:
Know EVERYTHING
You’re able to learn more traits from new sims that you meet by “getting to know them” or having the lifetime rewards that allow you to learn traits easily. However, some traits (like Gatherer, Loves to Swim, Social Butterfly) are impossible to figure out through these methods. This mod fixes that.
Stop and Pick the Roses
Love flowers? Have a botanist sim in your household? This mod makes it so new flowers are harvestable within the game. It adds four flowering plants and four harvestable flowers. You can get them over at the grocery store and plant them around.
Spruce Up the Loading Screen
The loading screen can be pretty bland. Sure, there are the cute messages (Reticulating splines, anyone?), but if you’re a hardcore sim fan, you’ve seen it enough times. This mod spruces it all up and adds some custom loading screens for each expansion pack. A minor, but welcomed change complete with silly messages.

Get Your Pets Learnt
Modders have made it possible of your sim pets to get their destructive motives filled without having to use your poor furniture. Hallelujah, as without any toys, and even sometimes with them, they’ll go straight for your lovely couches. Here’s a mod for dogs to fill their destruction motive when they collect shinies, and here’s one for cats to fulfill their scratch motive when stalking for crawlies.
Learn to Cook Faster… At Work

If you choose the “Practice Cooking” while at a chef style job, you’ll find that the skill might not go up as quickly as you’d like it to. With this mod, you’re able to set the different speeds at which your sim will learn to cook. These are the options:
- x2 Increases the value from 4 to 8
- x4 Increases the value from 4 to 16
- x6 Increases the value from 4 to 24
Gardner Service 2.0

This mod brings the gardening service and kicks it up a notch. The gardener will take care of your plants in no time. He’ll be faster at watering, weeding, harvesting, and disposing of plants. You can even request the service on other, additional lots you may own. Definitely necessary for anyone with big gardens in their lots.
Change the Temperatures During Seasons
This mod requires you to have Seasons as it changes the temperatures up to kind of emulate other parts of the world. In the “Winter” it can be hot, in the “Summer” there might be a massive snowstorm. The Seasons Temperature Change mod really opens up the possibilities of acting like your sims are in another part of the world that doesn’t necessarily follow the North American rules of weather.
Spook Up Your Full Moon
The full moon from the Supernatural expansion is already terrifying, but how about you make it more anxiety filled? If you want some reality to your town, you can install this mod so that a siren goes off every time the full moon begins. It will sound all through the neighborhood and warn everyone that shit is about to go down. Perfect for those Supernatural roleplayers.
Figure Out All Traits
By default, there are some traits that will never be discovered by sims no matter how hard you use the “Get to Know” option. This might be a glitch from the vanilla game, but no worries, because this mod sets every single trait that isn’t easily discovered, to discoverable. Now you can finally find out who’s a Gatherer, Loves to Swim, Social Butterfly, etc.
More Exits
When there are a ton of students graduating or trying to get to class, there can be crowding at the doors for the school. This mod finds a solution to open up more exits all over at every rabbit hole in the town. No longer will there be any crowding or wait time.
Wedding Arches
This mod looks to edit up the wedding arches that your sims can be married under. It increases their price to 250 simoleans, allows them to be placed atop of platforms, are located under the Entertainment section now, and will stay on the lot even after the family has been evicted. This is perfect for those players that think it’s too easy to get married the fancy way.
Fix the Hoverboards
Hoverboards are cool and all, but they take way too long to level up your Advanced Tech skill, unfortunately. Not only that, but you’d think hovering around on a friggin’ board would increase a sim’s fun level way more than it does. This mod solves both of those problems by making hoverboards from Into the Future funner as well as more educational.
Spice Up the UI
You can change the UI coloring in a variety of ways thanks to a bevy of mods. That’s right, if you’ve played with that same, blue UI for awhile, it might be time for a change of scenery, so to speak. For example, this mod makes the UI in the game all pink.
Slacking Is More Beneficial
The “Sleep at Work” option for your sims is usually not a good idea. Not only does it negate your progress at work and make your bosses dislike you, but it doesn’t even increase the sim’s energy all that much. Luckily, this mod sets out to fix this problem and make it a better option if you have a particularly sleep sim going to work or school. Sleeping at work or school will now be as beneficial as you would expect for your energy.
A More Realistic Warmth
This mod sets out to not make the “Warm and Cozy” buff no longer pop out when the temperature is unholy for it. If the weather outside is already hot or if it’s way too cold, you won’t unrealistic get the moodlet buff from a simple fireplace or anything else. It’ll be way harder to make your sim feel warm and cozy, basically.
Ask to Stay Over Whenever
This mod can be pretty useful because if you’ve noticed from the vanilla game, it needs to be later in the night for you to ask to stay over at a sim friend’s house. This can be problematic if you happen to forget to ask at the appropriate time and get kicked out. Luckily, you can now just ask to stay over way earlier while you’re there (or even later), as “inappropriate visits” no longer exist and you can just get that question in whenever you want.
Muslim Prayer
If you have a Muslim sim and would like them to perform their daily prayers, here is the mod for you.
Some Random Immortality Tweaks
This mod provides some random immortality tweaks such as allowing sims that ask for a longer life wish from the genie lamp to be immortal, making mummies immortal, and making unicorns immortal. It expands upon other mods that also do this sort of thing, by the way.
Sauna Tweaks
This is a set of two mods that say “no no no” to some of the automatic sauna settings in the vanilla Sims 3 game. No longer will sims use the sauna without your permission, and no more will using the sauna’s mud bath increase the sim’s lifespan.
Subway
Have some custom worlds of your own? Well, luckily, this mod exists for you! You’ll be able to have subway stations around your town as though it were Bridgeport. Just add this 10×10 subway entrance all over, where ever you want. Voila.
Get Retro
Want a bit of retro flair to your sims’ houses? Well, no problem! Plenty of modders have made mods that introduce a lot of retro designs to the vanilla game. For example, there’s this old-timey television set that’s straight from The Sims 2.
Speaking of Retro…
This is super cool. Grab the original Sims game– the one that started it all– and its iconic game case covers, and throw them on some frames as art around your household. Beautiful. You’ll have some legit Sims meta-ness going on. This mod makes this all possible.
For the Coder Sims
This mod is all about adding a Programming skill to your sim’s life. Working from a computer, you’ll be able to improve this skill, and having a higher logic level will also help your sim in learning programming. Beware, though, the author warns this mod should be “used at your own risk.”

With The Sims 3: Island Paradise, you’re able to own mobile boat houses and they are friggin’ awesome. Trash Cans For All
This mod seeks to end the pollution all over your sim town with some Late Night tweaks. It takes the Well-Kept Municipal Trash Can and Unsightly Urban Trash Can and makes them actually functional so you can use them as your trash cans if you wanted to.
Into the Future introduces sim robots that you can make and design and befriend and enslave. Unfortunately, this mod isn’t for that, specifically. But you CAN have gaming’s most famous robot in your household thanks to the skins that it adds! Yeah, it’s time to make that GLaDOS sim you always wanted and bake some cakes.
Holiday Cookies
If you’re feeling festive thanks to the Seasons expansion pack, then it’s time to get in the holiday spirit and bake some cookies. With this mod, you can get some winter holiday cookie shapes and flavors straight from your sim’s kitchen.

Ferris Wheel’s Day Off
This mod is simple enough; It adds a nice ferris wheel that you can place anywhere. It gives your sims positive moodlets and a buff on their first spin around. Not only that, though, if you place it on a community lot that you own, you’ll be able to sell tickets for profit!

Let There Be Light
Here’s a particularly useful one for those of us that hate the darkness. This mod allows more light to seep in through the windows in the game, regardless of which window or expansion or anything you’re using. You’ll use always get more light to bathe in, in your rooms, negating any necessity to overflow the interior with lights.
Adults Should Share Beds
Look, let’s all be adults here. Sometimes, you’re not sharing a bed with someone romantically. It’s out of necessity. So it’s kind of infuriating when sims are dead tired and refuse to go into a bed that another adult sim is in, when they’re not in a relationship with them. That’s not normal, so let’s cut it out of the game. With this mod, sims can share beds regardless of their relationship.
Pizza Pizza
This mod is simple, but so useful. For you hungry sims and sim families, ordering one pizza is often not enough and therefore not even worth it. Luckily, this mod exists and doubles the pizza size from 8 slices to 16.
Weird
This is an odd one, but it’s probably super cool to spice up your Island Paradise playthrough, right? With this mod, you’ll give mermaids the ability to have a shark fin for a tail. Awesome!
STOP CHECKING THE NEW OBJECT
Every single time you buy something new, your nosy little sim wants to check it out. Well, this mod shuts them right up and turns off the autonomous “Check new object” action. No longer will they friggin’ go right to the new object as though it just magically appeared in their house. They should be way more freaked out if that were the case.
Lifeguard on Duty
This mod makes it so that your sim can work as lifeguard at the pool lots, and not just the beach. You’ll be able to get the lifeguard career started at any pool lot around.
More Gnomes, Please
This mod adds the higher chance that you will get a seasonal gnome. These cuties wear appropriate clothing for the season they appear in. Additionally, the freezer cat is made more accessible, as well.
No More Skinny Swimmers
Before, swimming would make your skin turn the maximum skinniness after just, like, 30 minutes. Now, with this mod, your sim will have to work way harder for a rock hard body and washboard abs.
